چکیده
Observations of two unclassified Low Mass X–ray Binaries, X1543–624 and X1556–605, are presented. In the 2–10 keV band the first of the two sources is a factor of two stronger than the other. Both sources do not show X–ray bursts, dips or eclipses in their X–ray light curves. We find that both spectra are described by a two–component model consisting of emission from a cool accretion disk plus a Comptonized blackbody with kTbb ∼ 1.5 keV in a low opacity plasma. The spectrum of X1543–624 hardens from the first to the second observation, when the source slowly moves from right to left in the colour–colour diagram. The spectrum of X1556–605 can also be described by a model consisting of a blackbody plus an unsaturated Comptonization with electron energy kTe ∼ 4 keV. In the first observation, X1543–624 shows evidence of a Fe K emission line at 6.4 keV. Moreover, in both observations, the source spectrum exhibits an emission feature around 0.7 keV, which is interpreted as due to the superposition of the K edge absorption features of O and Ne elements with uncommon relative abundances with respect to the solar one (O/O ∼ 0.3, Ne/Ne ∼ 2.5). In the spectrum of X1556–605 no emission lines are observed. We discuss these results and their implications for the source classification and the accretion geometry of the compact

متن کاملThe Orbital Period of the Ultracompact Low-mass X-ray Binary 4u 1543–624
We report the discovery of the orbital period of the ultracompact low-mass X-ray binary (LMXB) 4U 1543−624 using time-resolved optical photometry taken with the 6.5-m Clay (Magellan II) telescope in Chile. The light curve in the Sloan r band clearly shows a periodic, sinusoidal modulation at 18.2±0.1 min with a fractional semiamplitude of 8%, which we identify as the binary period. This is the ...
متن کامل1 Xmm-newton Results on the Ultracompact Low Mass X–ray Binary 4u 1850-087 in the Globular Cluster Ngc 6712
We report on preliminary results from our XMM-Newton observation of the Low Mass X-ray Binary 4U 1850-087, located in the galactic globular cluster NGC 6712. It is an ultracompact binary system, with an orbital period of 20.6 min. In previous low-resolution X-ray observations 4U 1850-087 displayed a soft excess residual around 0.7 keV, possibly indicative of the presence of a high Ne/O ratio, a...
متن کاملX - ray properties of 4 U 1543 – 624
4U 1543–624 is a relatively bright persistent low-mass X-ray binary. Analysis of archival data from ASCA, SAX and RXTE is presented. The X-ray continuum be can modeled with the standard low-mass X-ray binary spectrum, an isothermal blackbody and a Comptonized component. Variations in the luminosity and flux ratio of the continuum components are seen. An increase in luminosity is accompanied by ...
متن کاملIdentification of Relativistic Effects in X-Ray Astrophysical Sources
The presence of neutron stars in low-mass X-ray binaries (LMXBs) is revealed by the occurrence of X-ray bursts or pulsations in these systems. The brigthest LMXBs, as Cygnus X-2 (observed with BeppoSAX [4]) and Sco X-1, were called “Z sources” because of the Z pattern in the X-ray color-color diagram: horizontal branch; top stroke of the Z; normal branch (middle stroke) and flaring branch (end ...
